DC Area Prepares to Host Summer Tournaments

In addition to the youth and adult leagues that run continuously throughout the year, the DC area will be home to multiple major tournaments during the summer. On the weekend of May 15th, the United States Flag and Touch Football League will host it's 15th annual Washington, D.C. "Metro Cup."

This competition is the first Major National Invitational Tournament of the summer, awarding teams with triple USFTL Ranking Points and a full paid bid to the 2010 National Championship depending on their results. This tournament is only two weeks after a Spring NIT in Glen Burnie, MD. Glen Burnie will host another NIT on June 26 and 27.

Although these nationally recognized tournaments bring in competition from throughout the country, local leagues have already begun their summer programs. The Reston Spring League, which hosts over 50 teams is already in the midst of its season, with the Pitbulls and Piranhas leading the O and C levels respectively. In Maryland, Prince Georges County began its spring season on April 11. After a two week hiatus the D.C. Maryland Virginia Flag Football League will resume play on May 23. For those who compete on the national circuit, these local leagues give the opportunity for competitors to prepare for upcoming tournaments.
