2010 Flag Football World Cup To Be Held in Boston

While soccer fans have to wait four years for the next FIFA World Cup, flag football fanatics only have to wait a year for their international competition that hails competitors from all over the globe. The 11th Annual Flag Football Festival, also known as the Flag Football World Cup, will be held in Boston, MA this summer.

As the sun grows hotter, teams gear up and make the journey to the home of the New England Patriots for one of the most competitive tournaments they participate in. The tournament was first created in 2000 in Cancun, Mexico and last year was held in San Diego, California. Teams from all over the world, including Austria, Japan, and Venezuela have come to compete for the title.

The tournament offers a variety of styles of play, including a co-ed and a youth bracket. The youth portion of the tournament ranges from eight years old and under to 18 years old. Brackets are determined by FlagMag Rankings; if a team has more points, it will put them in a better position to select their desired schedule. For the first three days, the tournament will feature a flag football camp and clinic, preparing teams for the upcoming games. The camp strives to develop the athlete’s ability to perform, to build supportive relationships within their teams, and to teach new techniques. Activities include lessons and drills on flag pulling, defensive coverage, pass route, trick, in addition to an appearance by a special guest. Team USA hopes to defend their 2009 title, and take home the whopping 4,500 triple ranking points the first place team earns.
